Vision RT wins prestigious HSJ Award
Vision RT is delighted to have been awarded “The Most Effective Contribution to Improving Cancer Outcomes” for our collaboration with University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, at theHSJ Partnership Awards 2023. The award was presented at a ceremony held in Battersea, London on March 23rd and followed a rigorous judging process involving a panel of judges selected from across the NHS and wider healthcare sector. The accolade recognises Vision RT’s ongoing innovative and collaborative partnerships within the NHS.
Leading the way to improve cancer outcomes at a global level, Vision RT installed two SGRT systems as well as an SGRT-based SimRT system for CT planning at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Using Vision RT’s SGRT solutions enabled Derby and Burton to become the first-ever NHS hospital to go tattoo and mark-free from day one of implementation. The hospital fulfilled its ambition of reducing the psychological impact of tattoos & has increased efficiency and throughput, reducing patient waiting times.
Good training and a close relationship between the hospital and Vision RT clinical staff were key to achieving this outcome. As part of preparation and training, test plans were created with an anatomically correct radiology phantom, and then ran as pilots. The results of these pilots showed perfect image-matching, demonstrating that the system was able to accurately set up and monitor the patient’s position.
Harry Turner, Chair of the Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS congratulated the team on their successful win, “The judges for this award felt the entry was well evidenced and a compelling case to improve cancer outcomes, with a clear opportunity for the spread of innovation countrywide. The solution has the potential to provide bespoke treatment for multiple cancers, benefiting outcomes and experience for patients. The project is an excellent example of patient-centered care, alongside the opportunity to improve productivity and efficiency”.
“For more than 20 years, Vision RT has worked to make radiation therapy more effective for cancer patients by pioneering Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT),” said Dr Norman Smith, CEO of Vision RT. “As the judges acknowledged, our work is making a significant contribution to improving outcomes for patients and we hope to continue this work throughout the NHS and beyond”.
