On a Mission to Make Radiation Therapy More Effective for Cancer Patients

Vision RT was founded in 2001 with a mission to develop pioneering technology for Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), with the goal of enabling patient comfort and enhancing treatment efficacy and efficiency. As the company has grown, it has been privileged to collaborate with some of the world’s leading cancer centers and equipment vendors.

The company’s video-based tracking technology is quickly becoming established as the standard of care in surface-guided radiotherapy. With a non-invasive, non-ionizing approach, there are now more than 2700 installations in active clinical use globally.

Niels Jacobsen holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from Aarhus University. He has extensive leadership experience from major international companies. His competencies include business management and in-depth knowledge of financial matters, accounting, risk management and M&A. He has broad experience from the global healthcare industry.

In April 2017, he stepped down as President & CEO of Demant A/S to become CEO of William Demant Invest A/S, the wholly-owned holding company for all William Demant Foundation investment activities.

Dr. Norman Smith

President and CEO

Dr. Norman Smith graduated from Cambridge University in Electronic Engineering; he then moved to Imperial College where he completed an MSc in Biomedical Engineering and a PhD in 3D Medical Image Processing for Image-Guided Surgery, in conjunction with Smith & Nephew plc. He has several years of experience in software development and medical imaging and has been the commercial driver of Vision RT in all key areas of the business since its inception. Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Engineering and Technology, co-founder of Vision RT and is named inventor on several patents.

Gideon Hale

VP of Operations

Gideon Hale supplies significant management and product design experience to Vision RT. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from Brunel University, and has worked in project management and hardware design in the UK and Japan for over 20 years. He held senior roles in corporations including ICL and Fujitsu, as well as three early stage technology start-ups. He joined Vision RT after its acquisition of Camera Metrics Ltd., which he founded in 2002 following roles as Technical Director of a 3D Medical Imaging company and CTO of a 3D biometrics company. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, an ISEB qualified Project Manager, and the named inventor on a number of patents relating to 3D acquisition systems.

Søren Nielsen

Non-Executive Director

Søren Nielsen holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Management and Product Development from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

After more than 20 years with Demant A/S, he took over as President & CEO in April 2017. He has extensive leadership experience from various positions within Demant A/S and his competencies include business management, strategy and product development.
