MapRT

Does non-coplanar treatment give meaningful improvements over coplanar arc therapy?

The published evidence suggests that while VMAT treatments give good dosimetry, non-coplanar VMAT treatments can yield even better results, for example in lung cancer [1],[2],[3], breast cancer [4],[5],[6], and head / neck cancer[7],[8],[9].

How much additional work does MapRT require?

Capturing the entire patient and accessory surface during simulation typically takes 1-2 minutes. Some of the recent MapRT work has shown clinically meaningful plan improvements with a 30 second increase in treatment time. MapRT may be useful in changing beam order to save time, may help avoid the need for physical clearance checks, and with the new API, enables clinics to create scripts to save even more time.

Is MapRT supported by published evidence?

MapRT is a very new technology but one paper, showing marked improvements in planning performance, is available here, as well as on our evidence page. Many users around the world are available to consult on the value of MapRT – contact Vision RT if you’d like us to arrange a reference site call.
